New Mexico State End of the Year Ratings

By Austin Killeen December 31, 2019

In the “Land of Enchantment,” boxers are rated in the original eight weight divisions. A boxer has to have boxed in 2019 in order to be ranked. The four best fighters in the state P4P are Austin Trout, Fidel Maldonado Jr., Josh Torres, and Jason Sanchez. They faced the toughest competition and are willing to go on the road. Josh Torres is cursed, as he has never won a fight outside of New Mexico. I see fighters from all over the state, having missed only four fight cards since 2011.

The heavyweight division needs bodies as # 2 ranked Richard Villa could easily make the 175-pound division. The light heavyweight, middleweight and welterweight divisions are loaded and offer local promoters a rich pool of potential fights. The lightweights are ruled by Fidel Maldonado Jr. who is looking for ranked contenders. Jason Sanchez and Aaron Perez at featherweight figure to tackle competition at the national level. The bantamweights need Augustine Banegas to come back, while Matthew Griego at flyweight figures to make some noise in 2020.

I wish everybody a happy New Year and look forward to some great fights in the coming year.
